San Diego Superior Court

Begins Move into New Central Courthouse

Family and Probate Services Begin in New Facility on Monday December 18th After years of planning, the San Diego Superior Court will begin the move into the new Central Courthouse located at 1100 Union Street. Both the Family Court facility (1555 Sixth Avenue) and the Madge Bradley Probate Court (1409 4th Avenue) will be shuttering and moving all services to the new facility beginning Wednesday December 13th

More than 165 employees, 11 judicial officers and thousands of files and business materials will make the six block move over five days. During that time, business and courtroom operations will be reassembled in the new facility and will re-open to the public on Monday, December 18th. Jury Services will also be moving during this time period.

Family Court will close all business offices at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13th through Friday, December 15th. For urgent filings, there will be a temporary window open at 220 West Broadway, 4 th Floor.

Probate Court will close at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 14th through Friday, December 15th. E-filing services will be available and a Drop Box for urgent filings will be available at 330 West Broadway, in the Civil Business Office, on the 2nd floor of the Hall of Justice.

Beginning January 4, 2018 and proceeding through February 4, 2018 the 71 departments and all operations will move from 220 West Broadway to the new building. This move will involve more than 700 staff, judicial officers and related services. “The move into the new court house at 1100 Union Street will bring significant improvements in safety and service once accomplished. The move itself is the largest and most complex logistical task ever undertaken by the court. Judicial officers and staff will do their best to minimize inconvenience to the public during this transition” indicates Presiding Judge Jeffrey Barton.

The State Judicial Council broke ground on the Central Courthouse in 2014. The new full-service courthouse consolidates the overcrowded and inadequate facilities of Family, Probate and the County Courthouse. The 704,000 square foot, 71 courtroom facility is designed to improve access and services for San Diego residents.
